Net-a-Porter has 100% cemented itself as the one-stop-shop for all things high fashion, after the launch of Karl Lagerfeld’s ‘budget’ range. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves- it’s pricier than Versace for H&M but a LOT cheaper than Chanel.

We’ve picked out our five favourites from the first drop, which all scream ‘Lagerfeld!’ Will you be splashing out on anything?

Dark + dangerous vs. wildly romantic: Couture Week

Paris Couture Week is traditionally a time for designers to show off some crazy creations and this year was no exception- although some designs were highly wearable and tied in with the mainstream catwalk trends – Chanel anyone?

However, we do love how different the shows can be- from elegant 1950s and sunshine yellows earlier this week to giant red dresses, romantic florals and 1920s references and super-scary fetishised, leather collections- all in the space of a few days. Which side are you on…dark and mysterious or breezy and romantic?

Girls on Film: Eva Green + Cracks

Every Friday we’re planning on bringing you ‘Girls on Film’ where we celebrate a characters’ style in a must-see movie.

I recently watched Cracks- starring Eva Green and Juno Temple and I found the atmosphere and style of the film brooding but the plot a tad lacking. The over-all premise of the film is exploring the complex (and slightly disturbing) relationships at an idyllic-looking girls’ boarding school. Cue the charismatic and enigmatic teacher played by Green. It reminds me slightly of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie…but not as compelling.

Having said that it’s worth a watch and plot aside, the costumes and scenery are spectacular. This post is all about the style and Miss G works some wonderfully 1930s bohemian looks. Enjoy! x

Hair bunting: best thing ever?

Summer 2012 is one of near-enforced merriment if you live in Britain. The Olympics are coming as is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee that means bunting (and probably sausage rolls).

Of course they’ll be lots of branded clothing (even Stella McCartney’s in on the act) and obligatory royal cups but if you want a multi-purpose item to get in the party mood, may be suggest hair bunting?!

We think the bunting hooks around your ear (a bit like wearing glasses back-to-front) instead of being a cartilage piercing. It’s only £10 from ASOS and comes in rainbow or classy gold.

You know how we like to be positive about celebrities’ fashion choices (after all, we all make mistakes,) well let’s just say there were some interesting outfits on the red carpet at the UK’s National Television Awards last night!

However, between the neon sequins, tangoed legs and luminous feathers, two ladies stood out from the crowd and flew the flag for fashion-lovers. Congratulations Elle Macpherson and Fearne Cotton – you did us proud!

Fearne rocked a 1920s flapper-style dress by Temperley London with a cute quilted Chanel bag (very Great Gatsby) while Elle Macpherson wowed in Tom Ford. Enjoy.

Yasmin Le Bon + the 50kg dress: Couture Week

And the award for the biggest and heaviest dress at Paris Couture Week goes to … Yasmin Le Bon, who had the tricky task of negotiating the runway in a 50kg red jersey dress with metal panels by Stephane Rolland.

Zooey Deschanel + Allure vs. Taylor Swift + Vogue

They’re both young and huge news in the States (and over here) but their styles are pretty different. Taylor Swift tends to stick to romantic, floaty stuff while zooey goes for retro and kooky.

Of course these are magazine covers and the girls are all styled up to the max and Zooey looks uber polished (but is still in 60s-style regalia) while Taylor has tapped into the seventies trend with plenty of chiffon. I’m personally not a huge fan of Taylor’s style (being a fan of scruffiness and structured/edgy fashion) but I do like this cover image.

Oh yet another daughter of an 1980s pop star just happens to be incredibly beautiful and a model. Tali Lennox is modelling Karen Millen’s new spring collection and it’s full of clashing prints, colour-pop accessories and digital floral prints. Are you a fan of a) Tali and b) KM’s collection?

We could spend hours looking at all the couture collections- after all couture is all about attention to detail and superb craftsmanship. But for those a little pushed-for time, here is a mini round-up of the highlights so far.

Chanel typically went OTT on the set front with Karl Lagerfeld showing off a beautifully-blue toned beaded collection in an airplane. It kind of reminded us a tiny bit of the SS12 underwater collection with some nods to Chanel classics past.

Meanwhile, one of the colours set to define SS12 dominated the Armani Prive and Versace shows. We’re calling it sherbet lemon. We love the mixture of 1950s shapes (such as structured tops and pencil skirts) and futuristic fabrics and space-age detailing- also created in a retro-style kind of way…think the 1950s Festival of Britain Skylon.

Meanwhile, Christian Dior is still playing the classic card (much like its SS12 show) but we like it and it’s super glamorous. Regarde!
