NYFW Day Two: Punchy Pastels + Flower Power

Has there ever been a spring collection without florals and pastels? I doubt it. Nevertheless, Peter Som has put a new spin on 60s flower power, while Jason Wu and Luca Luca showcased some super sweet pastel pieces.

Som’s bold florals came in acidic bright colours and were super-sized – not a ditsy print in sight. Florals were also made more modern with playful and structured shapes referencing the 60s and a fresh take on American sportswear.

Minimalist clean lines + bold florals + playful loafers = Spring sorted

Sheer fabric, flowe sequins and the fringing trend gets a new lease of life

Jason Wu and Luca Luca showcased a confection of pastel prettiness. Alongside a perfect collection of mostly monochromatic pieces, Wu injected some colour with structured colour block pastel dresses and swimsuits.

In contrast, Raul Melgoza (the man behind the Luca Luca collection) referenced US artist Georgia O’Keefe for his floral influences as well as floaty bold pastels. There were some great casual silk blazers and blouses in soft berries, citrus and teal– perfect spring staples as well as dresses with playful polkadots.

Seriously bold blues

Pastel clash? Soft lime and sky blue cocktai
