Valentino launches 3D virtual gallery
We’re always excited to see any tech/fashion mash-up (it’s what we’re all about after all!) but this one is super exciting as it involves Valentino *squee!*
It’s been two years in the making, but Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti have just officially launched a 3D virtual museum showing off the Valentino archives…check out the video!
Fashion fan Anne Hathaway helped to launch the website, The Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum, at MOMA this week and Valerie Steele, director of the museum reckons plenty more designers will create their own virtual archives too, according to a Mashable report. And we certainly hope so.
To take the tour, all you need to do is download the free desktop app from the website, which gives you access to a massive virtual museum containing 300 Valentino exhibits – including original sketches, ad campaigns, videos …and the dresses of course, some of which can be viewed from 360 degrees!
As with any technology ‘first’ there are things to tweak and we agree with Mashable that some of the exhibits could be higher res, vectors more polished…and this would make an amazing mobile app (think of the iPad gesture potential.) But it is a brave and pretty brilliant first attempt.
Most importantly we hope that more designers will jump onboard the virtual archive trend as well as get more adventurous with the use of mobile technology. Watch out for our visual search apps and website launching early next year!
