Gareth Pugh’s ballet costumes
Edgy fashion designer Gareth Pugh used to be a dancer and has now designed the costumes for Wayne McGregor’s Carbon Ballet at the Royal Opera House. And the music’s by Mark Ronson…Boy George even sings…what more could you want?
I am so excited and really hope I can get hold of a ticket. This costume is about as far from a frothy pink tutu as it gets. I do wonder just how you dance in such an outfit but after closer inspection all the dancer’s bendy-bits are exposed!
“Wayne’s […] only thing was to say that he never works with point shoes and tutus. He really wanted to see what my version of those things would be,” McGregor told The Telegraph.
“The point shoe may look restrictive, but it’s made in such a way the foot can do everything that it needs to do.”
Pugh said he follows the company “from the naivety of when they’re born, through their relationships, to what they become. I wanted [to convey] that in the costumes, so everybody starts naked, then evolves.” Intriguing.
