Scarlett Johansson vs Rooney Mara: battle of the bare midriffs

It’s the SS12 trend that I for one am most apprehensive about – the bare midriff. For one, I haven’t got access to a personal trainer (or possess much willpower) but it also conjures up memories of the mid nineties and the dreaded ‘crop top’- thank you the Spice Girls.

So when I saw Dolce & Gabbana and Miu Miu’s SS12 collection I was afraid – the bare midriff might be making a come-back … nooooooo!

Having said that, I love the look on Rooney Mara and Scarlett Johansson who have both perfected this trickiest of trends early. Rooney can do no fashionable wrong on the red carpet of late and while her Miu Miu dress looks sporty and edgy, Scarlett has tapped into the 1950s trend at the same time.

Which look do you prefer?

Love this cute and quirky look on Rooney

or Scarlett in Dolce & Gabbana?

And on the catwalk…

Scarlett Johansson doesn’t do casual!

You know that ‘The One’ Dolce & Gabbana perfume advert that’s been on all Christmas? The one with Scarlett Johansson in lace claiming she’s not an actress etc?

Well as glam as she is in the advert, she is in real life…apparently! Scarlett told The Sunday Times’ Style magazine that she likes to be well dressed at all times…to avoid those sticky situations when you’re looking rough and you run into someone you want to impress- you know what I mean!

“I always like to put a little bit of make-up on. I’m not the kind of person that just slops around in sweatpants. I like to feel a little more together – you never know who you’re going to see out there!”

Perhaps unsurprisingly (seeing as she is the face of Dolce & Gabbana make-up) Scarlett said she always keeps a lipstick handy.

“My absolute must-have is a really rich and vibrant red lipstick. I always keep red lipstick in my bag because I never know when I might show up to an event and be completely under-dressed. I feel like red lipstick is the cure-all for everything.”

 You get the idea!

While I’ve never ventured to a supermarket in my pajamas, I have definitely been caught looking a bit rough in public before. Are you perfect like Scarlett? My new yrs res might just be to carry a lipstick at least.

Scarlett Johansson + Dolce & Gabbana +1950s hair

We rarely comment on hair – it’s not our thing. But we will make an exception for Scarlett Johansson as it is the best accessory for her cute 1950s-style dress, which she wore at the ‘We Bought a Zoo’ premiere.

The dress is (obviously) by Dolce & Gabbana and we would love this for the Christmas party season.

It contrasted with Elle Fanning’s equally beautiful Louis Vuitton dress with cutwork and transparent elements. We love some catwalk-style fashion on the red carpet and both girls has just the right amount of ‘edge’ whilst still looking glamorous. Which is your favourite?

Oh we love this Dolce dress with cute sweetheart neckline + cut-out

P.S. want to see this film!
