Kate Middleton tops best-dressed list

Few can dispute the impact Kate Middleton has had on the nation’s wardrobes. Dressing like a lady is in again, brides are after Sarah Burton look-a-like dresses and sales of ‘nude’ leg-lengthening court shoes have soared.

And now she’s topped Harper’s Bazaar’s best-dressed British woman list, despite Dame Vivienne Westwood branding her style as ‘ordinary’. We love the way Kate mixes high fashion and statement jewellery (well if you do have access to the crown jewels…) with high street pieces from the likes of Topshop and Zara, which sell out of her picks almost immediately!

The magazine’s editor, Lucy Yeomans, who headed up the judging panel, reportedly said the Duchess won as her “incredible style evolution has gripped us all.”

Kate beat off fierce competition to top the list of the nation’s 20 most influentially attired (apparently). We’re not sure how much the ‘influential’ bit counts or whether it’s a best-dressed list really.

Florence Welch came second (see Chanel show for one of the many reasons why) and actress Andrea Riseborough third.

Kate Moss came 4th and Harper’s reportedly said: “She has a Tesco attitude about fashion – she makes accessible to everyone” well maybe, but her recent collaboration with Fred is anything but high street!

Tilda Swinton took 5th, Kiera Knightley 6th (see that Mary Katrantzou dress at Cannes) Stella McCartney 7th (for her own personal style rather than her own label- we think) sneaker-lover Phoebe Philo in 8th, Alexa Chung in 9th and Livia Firth in 10th– possibly because of how well she rocked that Stella McCartney Illusion dress!

Here’s the run-down from 11 to 20: Natalie Massanet, Natalia Vodianova, Samantha Cameron, Emma Watson, Yasmin Le Bon, Thandie Newton, Charlotte Dellal, Kristen Scott Thomas, Josephine De La Baume and Cara Delevigne.

Who’s be in your top 10 most influential current British style icons?

P.S. Just noticed that Pippa Middleton didn’t make the list!

The fetish hat that’s graced the heads of 6 cover girls incl Beyonce

Louis Vuitton has produced the must-have fashion item of AW/11 in terms of getting its products on the glossiest of fashion magazines…and the item is…*drumroll*… a £790 fetish hat!

So what’s the deal? This is one pricey accessory and is apparently inspired by racy 1970s film, the Night Porter, starring edgy Brit actress Charlotte Rampling. The hat in question, designed by Marc Jacobs, debuted in the same show at Paris Fashion Week in March when Kate Moss caused a stink by walking down the catwalk with a cigarette in hand.

Attitude!

The hat on the catwalk

So which cover girls have been snapped with the hat then?

Natalia Vodianova rocked the fetish look for German Vogue in July...

...Beyonce covered W Magazine in a flimsy LV shirt and glittery eye mask...

...Milla Jovovich covered Polish Elle this September...

...Heidi Klum for Russian Harper’s...

...Fei Fei for Marie Claire China; check out that waspie...

...And finally model Edita Vilkeviciute covered Chinese Vogue (China’s LOVING the hat!)

Which is your fav cover look and would you ever consider wearing a fetish-style hat?

Giselle + Natalia Vodianova walk for Givenchy + celeb frow

Givenchy wheeled out the supermodels to show off its latest collection in Paris – another seaside influenced collection with sharp tailoring and couture influences.

Seriously tight trousers were a little like wetsuits, sharks tooth necklaces, textured fabrics like fish scales and sandy colours evoked seaside sexy – no sticks of rock or deckchairs as inspiration as seen at Jaeger and Mulberry LFW.

Giselle WOW!

PFW: Alexa Chung +Salma Hayek sit frow @ Stella McCartney

Supermodels Natalia Vodianova and Miranda Kerr modelled Stella McCartney’s latest collection, which boasted an impressive frow, comprising Salma Hayek, Alexa Chung, Twiggy and more.

Inspiration might have come from your dad’s tie collection, with paisley tie prints blown up and adorning asymmetrical mini dresses and combined with sportswear mesh and baroque-inspired hemlines. Less overtly sexy than Stella’s last collection, sheer cut-away details still figured – making this S/S12 offering possibly the thinking girl’s way to do delicately provocative?

There was also a hint of pyjama party (not in a furry Ugg slipper, huge dressing gown way (a.k.a. my way) but in a slouchy trouser and relaxed top way – one trend possibly best left to the experts?
