Collaboration alert! William Tempest for River Island
Hello exciting designer/high street collaboration.William Tempest has designed a lush 13 piece collection for River Island as part of its ‘Design Forum’ that is the perfect mix of edgy sexy and cute.
Egyptian Mythology is the main inspiration but the pieces are versatile and will fit in nicely with the art deco, baroque and leather winter trends very nicely indeed. While River island has kindly released a first look teaser, the whole collection will debut in a short film at the London Fashion Week Fash/On film festival in September.
We’re excited about this one.
Battle of the high street hotties: Lana del Rey + Rihanna
Brace yourself for stellar adverts for our fav highsteet stores. Land Del Rey is the new face of H&M, while Rihanna is designing a hot clothing collection for River Island.
Lana will film a commercial for H&M and record a song called Blue Velvet especially for the campaign, which so far shoes her in a fluffy pink sweater. Apparently the collection will be super feminine with a focus on knitwear and tweed…two of AW12’s key looks. The brand’s creative director reportedly told WWD that ‘the mood is very LA noir’ … yay!
Meanwhile, after a lot of speculation, Rihanna is officially designing her own capsule collection for River Island…but you’ll have to wait until Spring to get your hands on it. This is possibly a good thing as we bet some of the outfits will be slightly revealing and edgy…not handy in winter with goose pimples.
Rihanna told the press: “I’ve been wanting to design my own collection for some time. River Island is the perfect partner for me to collaborate with and working with a British, family run business also really appealed to me. I find London really inspiring and River Island loves to have fun with clothes. I’m looking forward to working with them and creating something really special.”

Fashion tribute to the Jubilee boat parade
So right about now if you’re a Londoner, you are probably outside in the drizzle watching the boat pageant to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, slightly chilly beside the Thames…or cosy-ed up indoors watching it on the telly with a sticky bun or something equally British.
So to celebrate, check out these brilliant bateau-themed fashion items.
Heavenly 7: Underwater love
We are going a teensy bit crazy for SS12’s underwater trend. Take styling tips from Ariel (or Chanel and Versace) and team minty and aqua shades with shiny silvery metallics and sinuous sequins to make like a mermaid!
Top 5: Bomber jackets
Isabel Marant sent a wonderfully retro kitch-made-cool bomber jacket down the catwalk last summer and now stars like Lana Del Rey and Jessie J are keeping the trend well and truly alive. While Varsity –look jackets can still be found, we love the floral print and scarf print offerings on the high street that are a cheap and chic outfit updater and can be worn with your favourite pair of skinny jeans or shorts with minimum effort. Style with hi-tops for bonus urban style brownie points!
Top 5: paisley print buys
Paisley was big in the 1970s and had a bit of a comeback in the 1990s (not a good phase!) but this spring it’s cool and a great alternative to florals.
Take styling tips from Jil Sander and Stella McCartney and wear your paisley with lots of white in sleek shapes, or make like JW Anderson and Jonathan Saunders and embrace some neon for a modern take on that pattern you see on lots of old blokes’ ties.
Top 5: Scarf print picks
D&G’s parting gift to the fashion world was the scarf print dress, skirt, shirt (you name it) and the print is seriously hot on the high street! Here are our 5 favourites and four of them are under £40.
Top 5: Dip dye buys
I love dip dying whether it’s on hair or clothes and it works particularly well with this SS12’s Hawaiian prints as well as with pastel jeans and any trusty denim shorts for a relaxed Cali surf look. I also think it might be the cheat’s way of doing print clashing without being too brave! Here’s five dynamite dip dye buys.
Top 10: Patterned jeans
Patterned jeans are big this spring, which is particularly good news if you live somewhere a little patchy on the weather-front. They’re the perfect way to kick start your spring wardrobe without freezing in the drizzle! Here are 10 of the most adventurous we’ve found to suit all budgets.
Top 5: Heart accessories + fashion
Love it or loathe it Valentine’s Day is coming and we’ve rounded up 5 quirky heart-themed fashionable pieces that you’ll love.
