Snap Fashion Launches Today!
We’ve all been there. We’ve poured over red carpet style and wondered where we can get a dress like that. We’ve noted a top on our street style heroine and yearned to get the look, and yes, we’ve sighted out-there designer shoes and dreamed of finding a pair just like them all season long, all at a price that suits.
Hankering after a dress, top, pair of shoes – whatever the desired object – and not having the first clue about how to get hold of it is one of life’s annoyances. Enter Snap Fashion, a sartorial search engine that uses images to search for matches, saving time, money, and eliminating the frustration of having to trawl for hours – days, even – shopping online.
Snap Fashion, the first of its kind in the UK, is invented and developed by 25-year old computer science graduate, Jenny Griffiths, who was one of the few girls in her class at the University of Bristol. “I was tired of shopping on a student budget,” says Griffiths, Founder of Snap Fashion. “I love admiring looks in magazines, on the catwalks and those that other women put together, but when it came to sourcing the items that I liked – within my budget – I struggled. Using technology to search via images seemed like the most obvious thing to do.”
The process is a simple one: take out phone,
launch the free Snap Fashion application, select the product type that you want to search, and then snap it. The item is then searched for on Snap Fashion’s extensive list of affiliates via cut, colour, and style, and the results are delivered straight back to you within seconds. Users can browse all, save favourites to buy later, or click through directly to the retailer’s website to buy now. It’s a rewarding shopping experience all in a few quick clicks.
The net is cast wide courtesy of Snap Fashion’s vast database, which currently counts more than 100 major retailers. It’s a catalogue that boasts high street giants including Gap, Jigsaw, Jaeger, Uniqlo, Warehouse, LK Bennett, French Connection, Reiss, Monsoon, and Kurt Geiger, in addition to etailers Mywardrobe.com, Stylebop.com and Farfetch.com and a host of department stores such as Harrods, Selfridges, Liberty, House of Fraser, and US fashion emporium, Bloomingdales.

FNO: Snap Fashion style
We are recovering from Fashion Night Out and what a night it was. We were lucky to be invited to Vogue and Mulberry’s amazing private party and yes there were celebs, designers, delicious cocktails, cute crowns and a chance to see the new AW12 collection, including the luscious Lana bag. I was completely star struck to meet Christopher Kane and Vogue’s Editor Alexandra Schulman, who are two of my fashion heroes. It was also lovely to chat to some of our favourite bloggers and tell them about our impending launch…it’s tomorrow, so if you have an iPhone get seriously excited!
While mingling with fashion’s great and the good, it was amazing to see how far our little team has come in the first year of its existence. Our app and website is about to launch and change the way people shop, we’ve won awards and got investment and we’ve met some of our fashion idols. We feel incredibly lucky and excited about the future. It’s such a cliché but the past year has been such an adventure and an incredible journey (without the lost cats and dogs).
So, this FNO was a little different to last year where we tested the majority of Bond Street’s FNO cocktails and ran around like crazy! But of course we had lots of fun. Our lovely PR queen Izzy was chief celeb spotter and raved about the pomegranate cocktails at Tiffanys, our CEO Jenny took some great pics of new Mulberry products and demoed our app to some amazing people, I discovered Bubble Tea (I think) at Louis Vuitton and shook Christopher Kane’s hand. I might not wash again – kidding.
Have you got any good FNO stories to share?

OMG Victoria Beckham wears trainers
…and a tracksuit!
VB had declared that she woudn’t be seen dead in public in a tracksuit, but the polished designer has been papped in just that…and trainers instead of her famed stilettos. Working the sports luxe trend hard, we salute you Victoria. (Has Posh turned Sporty?!)

Is this the most expensive paper bag ever?
We’ve read so many articles in recent times about the death of the ‘IT bag’ and how ‘label fever’ and being branded with designer labels all over your outfit is so passé. Most recessionista fastionistas opted for discrete logos and plain handbags but now there is a strange new hybrid on the block- the labelled minimalist paper bag.
Jil Sander is selling a coated paper bag for £185 as part of its AW12 menswear collection. We agree that it’s the best looking paper bag we’ve seen recently but does it justify its pricetag? Well, it would appear that some men think so as it has sold out from stockist LN-CC.
Now this is no ordinary paper bag. Oh no. It boasts visible stitched seams and two metal eyelets at the bottom, according to Vogue. As well as the Jil Sander name – obvs. They say there’s a fine line between madness and genius…what do you think?

Beauty blast: Andy Warhol x Nars + the ultimate designer drop
OMG this week has seen four of the most amazing beauty collaborations of late. We’ll slow down and breathe…the excitement in the Snap office is palpable! Here’s part one…
1) Nars x Andy Warhol
We have been obsessed with Andy Warhol’s art forever and one of our favourites is that portrait of Elizabeth Taylor with the punchy green eyeshadow. And now, we can paint our own faces with a collection from Nars inspired by the great pop artists’s prints. Hurray! One of our favourite pieces from the collection is the Warhol monochrome eyeshadow palate- but is it too pretty to use…is it itself a work of art?!
(P.S. the pics came out this week but the collection drops on 1 November)
2) Carine Roitfeld for MAC
One for sexy senoritas. This looks like a super chic way of updating old make-up bag favouites as the collection is based on Carine’s chic and smudy signature eyes- or as she puts it, ‘tired sexy’. Now we can rock the tired look, but this Mac launch might help with the other bit and OMG there’s a video!
There are 21 pieces to collect (and you can justify a few as they are smoky staples) but as with all Mac collections you better catch them while you can.
Carine says: “Beauty is about a small accident, it is not totally perfect. Sometimes bad things are the more beautiful things. So when you wake up and you haven’t taken off your mascara and you look a bit tired, but tired sexy – this is what I like.”

Fearne Cotton goes Geisha for Very
Fearne Cotton has jumped on the oriental bandwagon for her latest Very clothing collection. We saw oriental-styled details all over the AW12 catwalks, perhaps most notably at Proenza Schouler, while Christopher Kane’s cool minimalist aesthetic was our favourite. But Fearne’s take on the trend is bolder and brighter.
While the presenter’s personal sense of style that we love is still evident, this is a pretty bold look. Are you a fan?
